WE HAVE LIFT-OFF: poem

Grow Up, Moon Boy collection. #30

(Written December 2014. Updated 2021.)

To my universe,

This letter's for you—
before twelve lightyears separate us two.

Soon the clock’s face
will show that it’s time for me to go.
Time, once cherished,
hath become my enemy, unrelentingly
slipping, and slipping so fast away from me.
I wish I could stay in your galaxy.
I wish that it were meant to be.
The moment isn’t right for now,
but what the future holds, nobody can tell.

For now, the cosmos call.
The hour’s come, they say—
it's time for the boy from the moon to run.
Rest assured,
I’m coming back,
against all odds to stay at last.

In tears, I bid farewell to thee.
I will see you in my every dream.
My love is forever,
though our memories die.
“We have lift-off.”
Goodbye, goodbye.
