SUNKEN TREASURE: poem
Grow Up, Moon Boy collection. #14
(Written 2010. Updated 2021.)
Deep beneath
the serene ocean blue,
my beating heart here waits
for you
Years upon years have gone by, with no avail
So many came searching,
tried, and failed, but
just when all hope seems lost, the tides
are turned, flipped, and tossed
A beautiful ship on the horizon I see,
shooting fast from afar, like a
big, nautical wooden star,
and there on its deck, stands stoic
my dream girl,
more special than even the most purest pearl
Across the seas she’s come, singing
of love and rum, and
what she desires is much more valuable
than simple silver dollars—
my pretty pirate is what I’ll call her
With a fieresome ARGH!
and one giant splash to follow,
she dives in fearlessly,
plunging leagues deep
below, with no map for her mission,
to find my stash in the place
where the most curious looking fish
mingle, and ravenous
great whites nap peacefully
Arriving, finally,
at the quiet ocean floor,
she discovers what she's been looking for
Overflowing with a love so grand
no man nor woman could hope
to ever measure, her sunken treasure
chest of metaphoric shiny gold my
pretty pirate takes, and to her ship
with a cheery grin
she swims
